Paul Eill has run his own business for nearly 15 years but found nuggets of useful information when he looked at a business start-up guide offered by the city of Greer.

Eill has merged his Southern X-Ray business with North Carolina-based Blue Ridge X-Ray to open a branch of that company at 211 Randle St.

Though he understands how to run a business, he still referred to the business primer for tips and other advice before he obtains a license for his new location.

"It's very helpful," he said. "We've already gotten our zoning and all of that stuff."

For those who share Eill's entrepreneurial spirit but don't have the ownership experience, the step-by-step primer shows exactly what needs to be done before making the plunge.

The guide walks prospective owners through everything from zoning requests to how to submit money collected from the 2 percent hospitality tax.

Steve Owens, the city's communications manager, said that in the past, business owners may have had to go through several departments to get the information they now can get in one place.
